As a human there are many choices that we make daily that define who we are. Will we be courageous? Will we be productive? What exactly will I do? These are all questions that people ask themselves. Then there are times when our humanity is really questioned, such as seeing bad behavior and making a choice to say something, or not.

The concept I would like to focus on today is whistleblowing. This has always interested me because of all the secrets that are being hidden from people. Whistleblowing is an individual releasing information to officials that they believe involves wrongdoing. Most of the time, you see this in big organizations, but this is not the only time you can see whistleblowing occur.
Whistleblowing is seen in big media and sometimes even in the government. The thing is, whistleblowing is not just a juicy drama story; these headlines can break as big news. One of the best examples in recent times would be the famous actress Lea Remedy. She is exposing the organization of Scientology and the awful practices of it.
Although her idea of leaving put her through a lot of rigorous torment from the organization, it was the courageous and right thing to do. Ultimately, saving other people from these awful practices. She could have chosen to live in fear; instead, she spends her life spreading her truth. Her speaking out against this organization has caused her lots of backlash from members and supporters. This is a common problem of whistleblowing. People who speak out could face a number of issues. Reputations are damaged, people have lost their normal lives, lost their careers, have been blacklisted, and sometimes even harassed. The fear of not being believed often controls people's choice to speak out, which is a very realistic fear to have.
As you can see, doing the right thing has its consequences, but continuing to stay silent may be worse.
